KNOW WHO TO TURN TO
Before you call your GP, remember that there are other places you can turn to for help or treatment.
Pharmacy can help with coughs, colds, or other minor ailments.
Dentist can help with toothache, abcesses etc.
Optician if you have any changes in vision or irritated eyes.
Hospital/A&E for cuts needing stitched, burns or broken bones.
Call 999 if you think you are having a heart attack etc.
SIGNPOSTING
The way that GP’s work is changing to ensure patients see the right clinician for their ailment. You will notice a change to the way we answer the telephone. This is so that GPs can see patients with complex issues.
Our receptionists have had training and will ask you questions so that they can “Signpost” you to the correct place. e.g. pharmacy, optician, or the ANP at the medical centre who has done training in minor ailments, and can issue medication if necessary. Please follow their direction. It will save you time in the long run.
APPOINTMENTS
MAKING AN APPOINTMENT
When you call the practice, you will be asked which type of appointment you would prefer. You can book in advance, however, staff will still ask for information; a brief description of what is wrong. They can then ensure your call is directed to the appropriate services. Many thanks.
